STEP 3
The play is "re-performed."
The original recorded event is the first performance of each play. Any one following is a "re-performance." Re-performances may vary stylistically and conceptually from one to the next - in the form of audio, live stage, video, or no re-performance at all - by an entirely new cast or by the same actors of the original event/performance.

Limited Engagement, performance/installation, 2005
In this installation (at Pei Ling Chan Gallery in Savannah, Georgia), the space was transformed from an empty room into an implied theatre venue. The venue was set up to host a re-performance of The Committee.
People were invited to the gallery opening as cast members in a yet-to-be-realized play. All words and actions that occurred throughout the opening constituted a new performance called Limited Engagement.
The setting and time frame of Limited Engagement was approximately 2 hours before the stage re-performance of The Committee was to take place. Much like the concept of a soundtrack to a movie heard throughout the theatre in the hours leading up to a showing of that movie, the previously-recorded audio re-performance of the The Committee was heard throughout the space, with brief intercom interruptions for mic checks or requests for actors to report to the dressing room. Because the gallery opening ended before any actual stage re-performance occurred, audio is still the only re-performance medium of The Committee to date.
A TOUR OF THE SET OF LIMITED ENGAGEMENT:
One enters the space through the "backstage door." A bulletin board full of theatre announcements for actors to peruse hangs on the wall to the right. Straight ahead is an implied hallway that separates an implied green room on the left (photo B) and implied dressing room on the right (photo D), and leads to the back view of the stage wall (photo A).
